Welcome to the Distance Education Teaching Eligibility Canvas Site.

This site has been developed to track and verify eligibility for distance education (DE) instruction at San José City College (SJCC). Distance education includes online and hybrid delivery methods (asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid and HyFlex modalities).

Effective Fall 2024, the AFT and the District signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding Distance Education that provides for Initial Minimum Qualifications Training (MQT) as well as Subsequent Qualification Training (SQT). Faculty will need to meet qualifications by August 16, 2024.

To become eligible and/or to remain eligible to teach DE courses at SJCC, please download, save to your computer, complete, and upload the appropriate form below. (Note: these are fillable forms, so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to complete them.)

Faculty Who Wish to Maintain Eligibility
If you have taught a DE course in the previous two years, download this form to maintain eligibility (does not include Spring 2020 transition).
Faculty New to DE Teaching or with Lapsed Eligibility
Download this form to apply for eligibility if you have never taught a DE course or if you haven't taught a DE course in the previous two years. If you took the DE Training, use this form.

🌟 Tip!

Create a folder on your computer called SJCC and within that folder create a folder called “DE Training”. Then, when you complete any type of training related to Distance Education, save the documentation of completion into this folder. Documentation includes badges, certificate of completion, certificate of attendance, certificate of participation, screenshots of email verifying attendance to workshops.

Once your eligibility application, along with any copies of screenshots of transcripts or links to badges or documents of certifications of completions, has been reviewed, you will receive a "grade" of 100 percent if the application is complete, or of 0 if the application is incomplete.
Will I get feedback!
Yes! You will get feedback on your eligibility, when it will expire and more. Click Grades on the navigation menu and see “Comments” for the assignment for status updates and feedback.
